Rejecting the Colonialist Legacy
The issue of enslaving another human being is a dark part of history that is often rationalized or justified by stating, "that was just how it was back then." However, this gaslighting only serves to downplay the wrongs committed and the psychopathic nature of those who engaged in such brutal acts. It is a fact that those who lack empathy or sympathy for causing pain to others are emotionally detached.
There are various factors that can contribute to emotional detachment, but the three most common ones are the failure to accept responsibility for actions, early behavior problems, and lack of remorse and guilt. These traits are evident in the colonialists, then and now, who were commissioned by abusive rulers to pillage, rape, and murder the inhabitants of the free world.
Unfortunately, the impact of the colonialists' legacy is still felt today, as leaders continue to display little concern for the well-being of their citizens. It is worth noting that manipulation is not a sign of intelligence, yet society often glorifies it. For instance, in my early twenties, I aspired to work in marketing and entertainment. However, after spending time with influential individuals in Los Angeles, I discovered that most of them were narcissistic psychopaths. I could not bear the thought of hurting others for personal gain and decided to pursue a different path.
