However, its roots trace back to Saturnalia, an ancient Roman festival honoring Saturn, the god of agriculture, wealth, and time. Saturnalia was marked by excess, debauchery, and societal role reversals, reflecting themes of chaos and control. These echoes seem to linger in modern Christmas, masked by consumerism and festive cheer.
